Our Tour Guides

English Wine Tasting Tours have a great group of tour guides, who will look after you for the day. As is to be expected they all love English Wine and will all ensure you have a fabulous day out!

Nicola Boarer

The Boss

Nicola is the owner of English Wine Tasting Tours. She is a wino and foodie at heart. She used to work for the BBC Good Food Show!  The concept of English wine tours came to Nicola in a visionary dream when she had passed out on English wine.  When she awoke she started inviting friends down from London to use a guinea pigs on her wine tours and within week launched her business.

Nicola’s background is in event management and marketing, and is WSET Level 2 certified.

Justin Lay

The American

Justin is passionate about wine and everything English! Oddly, he’s American so don’t hold it against him! Justin does a lot of the English Wine Tasting Tours.  He seems to have a sweet spot for sparkling wine and fine food, yet he often orders fish and chips and a rose on the wine tours.

Justin manages the contracts with suppliers and the finances for the business.  He’s a City worker who enjoys doing the wine tours on the weekend and he’s also married to the boss.

Martin Phillips

The Showman

Martin is our resident wine expert, and pretty much knows all there is to know about wine.  He was on wine tasting panels back in the early 1980s and is now a wine presenter, buyer and cellar assessor. He is WSET qualified and similarly French Wine Society Masters Sud de France.

But it’s not all serious with Martin, he’s full of  boundless enthusiasm and is fun, fun, fun to have as your tour guide.

Martin also presents our tutored English wine tasting events.

Ken Maitland

The Professor

Ken Maitland is the great professor of English wine and even owns his own wine school! As well as founding the Essential Wine School in 2011, Ken is also one of the guest tutors at the WSET’s own London Wine & Spirit School which helps him keep up to date with the ever developing world of wine as well as training and educational techniques.  He has been a guest judge at the French National Wine Fair to have lectured at the Lycée Agricole at Mâcon, and one of the first to attend the Austrian Wine Academy.

Ken also presents at our tutored English wine tasting events.
